The 100th anniversary of Canadian broadcasting
In December 2019, to mark 100 years of Canadian broadcasting, a professor of the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) proposed an ambitious graduation project to his students.
Build a broadcasting station from 100 years ago with today’s components.
The goal? To reproduce the technical feat of Guglielmo Marconi, one of the inventors of wireless radio and telegraphy.
The ÉTS campus is located on the site of the former Marconi Wireless Telegraph offices.
Here are the obstacles the students had to overcome - including the pandemic - to accomplish this beautiful project!
On May 20, 1920, the very first Canadian radio entertainment program was broadcast from the roof of the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of Canada on William Street.
